The Verizon G3100 Mesh is a better router than the Fios quantum G1100. The G3100 has a completely improved coverage with an average speed of 100Mbs. It has a more sleek design and has more WiFi speed. The G3100 has a limited static IP address of just 10. The G3100 router has 7 ports, 1 WAN, 4 LAN ports, 1 Coax, 1 USB 3.0, and DC in power port, while the G1100 has 8 ports which include 2 USB ports.
I will first dive in with the Verizon G3100 mesh, then analyze Verizon Quantum G1100 at the end.
Verizon G3100 review
To best understand Verizon, you have to use some of their gadgets like the Actiontec M1424WR, Verizon Quantum G1100, and the Verizon G3100 WiFi Mesh. The changes and upgrades of Verizon Fios and mesh WiFi routers are a step closer to the global improvements to technology and the way we use them. If you are a regular customer of Verizon you will know getting support from the company requires you to have all kit from Verizon.
The Verizon G3100 is sleek and straight to the point, even though this model G3100 looks better than G1100. I can only compare the shape of the G3100 to Google home, with an LED light button in the front panel. The internal of the G3100 mesh WiFi unit router is mounted vertically. The router has 1 WAN, 4 LAN ports, Coax, 1 USB 3.0, and DC in power port.
Features of G3100
When it comes to compatibility, the Verizon G3100 is not compatible with other home WiFi mesh systems it is a standalone unit, if you want to get the best G3100 mesh features, you will have to get the Verizon E3200 Extender. This is why I pointed out earlier, to get the support you have to use all the kit. Unlike the G1100, the G3100 has 1 less port, the USB port is only for charging.
The Verizon G3100 supports Guest WiFi, it also has a different SSID for guest WiFi network and password. If you are using the Guest Wifi network, you cant see other devices of the network.
G3100 Installation and setup
If you are using the older version which is the G1100, you have to get it to unplug first. Read all the steps provided in the manual before attempting to do it yourself. This is a standard setup for all Verizon routers including Actiontec M1424WR.
- Unplug G1100 and plg in G3100
- Use the information on the router to login into the G1100 with a username/password.
- At the top navigation, select “My Network”.
- On the left navigation, select “Network Connection”.
- Then select “Broadband Connection” by clicking on the hyperlink, not the edit which is in the middle of the screen.
- Then, scroll down.
- Select “Settings”.
- Next to DHCP Lease, click on the red button “Release Button”.
- Select or click “Apply”.
Once you have done this, discount the G1100 router from the power source and connect the G3100 router to the power source. Give it some minutes to sync and update firmware, then you are ready to go.
Most people may get confused with the LED lights of the Verizon G3100 which is the button in front with different lights. I will try to shed more light on how the G3100 LED light works.
- When the light is white it means normal.
- If the white light is blinking, it means it’s synchronizing to Verizon.
- The blue blinking light means it paring or paired to devices.
- The green light means the WiFi is turned off.
- The yellow blinking light means no internet connection.
- While the red light means a system failure.
The G3100 has a WiFi speed improvement from G1100, especially for dead zones. With the G1100, you will need to reconfigure the SSID, the reason why you may not want to use the same SSID name is to make anyone in your household be able to communicate for assistance with the provider. But this is taking care of with the G3100, you don’t need a repeater. The G3100 has a statice IP address limit which is 10.
Fios G1100 review
One thing that most people would say about the Fios G1100 is that it is affordable, durable and the performance is great. I completely agree with them because of the WiFi speed, and it is typically faster than most routers.
The design of the Fios G1100 router is compact, upright, and slim which enables it to fit in the tiniest spaces. It has two LED-lit icons, one of the icons represents internet status and the other is for when WiFi is on, and also a WPS button, all in the front panel. The WPS button is used to set up a password-protected network, pair the router with other WPS devices, and as a reboot button.
The G1100 has 8 ports, 4 LAN ports, 1 WAN port, 1 coaxial port, and 2 USB ports. There is also a DC power input port and a reset button all at the rear panel of the router.
Features of Fios G1100
the G1100 has two bands, the 2.4 GHz and the 5GHz bands, which means you can use or connect multiple devices at the same time, yet still, the router can use the right bandwidth on each device. The dual-core processor of Fios G1100 ensures convenience, fast, and reliability of the network whether you are connected wirelessly or wired. Another feature of G1100 is the Beam Forming Technology that helps WiFi focus only on connected devices for speed and interruption, unlike most router that sends WiFi signal all over the place.
Just like the G3100, the G1100 also has Guest WiFi, it also has a different SSID for the guest WiFi network and password. If you are using the Guest Wifi network, you cant see other devices of the network. The Fios G1100 has a mobile app that allows you to adjust settings on the move, the app is called My Fios App.
G1100 Installation and setup
The setup and installation of the G1100 are very easy, it is a basic setup and need not any software or CD, thanks to all the buttons and ports which show where things should go. This is a standard setup for all Verizon routers including Actiontec M1424WR.
The G1100 has spaces for multiple devices to be connected, has good internet speed for uploads and downloads, also supports multiple internet network standards, easy to install, and is good value for money.
